Embracing the Process

At times, we all get carried away with the motions of life. I'm always falling into a mini mental breakdown whenever I begin to ponder on my life and what is to come of it. With the help of social media, it is so easy to fall victim to the enemy of comparison.

Being a new found blogger, its definitely easy to compare yourself to others that are established in the industry. Many times, I've been discouraged. I'll think to myself that I'm wasting my time or even that I don't have what it takes to succeed as a blogger. But I have to remember that NOTHING happens overnight. No empire or media mogul woke up one day and just became mainstream in their profession. It takes weeks, months, years, even decades before people enter the prime of their careers.  Comparison is the true thief of joy; don't allow it take away from the journey that you're taking to get to where you want to be.

Like I said, it's so easy to get caught up in what others are doing, or what you want to be doing, instead of focusing on the work at hand. Sometimes, I just want to skip all the hard work and bask in the glory and fame. However, I can't ignore the process it takes to get there. When I say this, I am referring to my blog, my education, my career, my spiritual life, etc. I always want to skip the stage of work and dedication, and just enjoy my dreams and aspirations. Unfortunately, life does not work like that. And if it did, many people would not be grateful for what they had.

I recently listened to Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to those Who Create it by Charlamagne the God. The audiobook truly made me develop an appreciate for him and what he stands for. Although, many people perceive him to be rude, he's just an honest person. In the book, he discusses all that he has been through and how he got to where he was. It was truly inspiring and motivating. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in hearing his story.  The one thing that I took away from the message was to embrace the process.

Embrace the process

Embrace struggling, knowing that your hard work is not in vain. Embrace the late nights at work, and then waking up for class in the morning. Embrace working multiple jobs. Because all of your hard work is going to take you where you need to be. The process is not meant to be easy, nor is it for everyone. Those who are fueled by ambition and drive will thrive through this "struggle" stage and preserve to their destiny. The process is meant to build character, and to develop the necessary qualities to walk into what you're praying for.  Sometimes, it's not that God is telling us "No," rather he is saying "Not yet."

In our current states, we are not ready to deal with ALL that is included in our hopes and dreams. Sometimes our attitudes aren't right or our motives aren't right. God has to take us through the process to mold us into the people we need to be in order to truly appreciate and fully utilize our dreams. The process is meant to be long. The more time God has to work on you, the more prepared you will be for your blessing. We have to keep the faith, and embrace what we are going through.  The process was never meant to hurt us, but rather to help us. To build us up into who we need to be.
Just embrace the process and trust that God knows what he is doing.

Before, I end this post, I want to leave you with a scripture for reference.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end." - Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

Hope you enjoyed the read! Until next time.

Side note: Sometimes i forget that this is more than just a fashion blog. And this topic has just been so relevant in my life. I knew I had to share it with you guys.

Denim, Denim, Denim

This is by far one of my favorite outfits that I've pieced together! I'm honestly infatuated with this denim on denim trend. It's my favorite, and i'll probably wear it out of style. There are so many possibilities  with this fabric combination. Along with that, it also leaves room for something else to stand out. Knowing myself, I always have to have one statement piece in any of my outfits. The focal point of this style were my blue suede chelsea boots from ASOS.

By the way, paparazzi does love me.

The Overall Comeback

Happy Monday y'all! Today, I decided to style my denim overalls. Overalls, in general, have made a huge come back into the world of fashion. With that being said, I decided to jump into the trend and see what magic I could work. I decided to pair up these light wash overalls, with neutral colors. The neutral tones allow for the overalls to be the focal point of my outfit. I also paired this with my go-to shoe, these cheetah print casual shoes from ASOS.

This summer has definitely been one filled with hard work and dedication. Anything worth having is going to require endless effort. I've been reading a lot of books lately that focus on public relations, marketing, and social media. Not only am I using this knowledge in regards to my blog, but to my schooling and career as well. To be the best, you've got to learn from the best! I'll probably being posting something towards the end of the summer with some motivation for this upcoming school year. Stay tuned for that.

Adventures in RVA!

As a child, I always looked at summer as time to explore what life truly has to offer. I didn't really get to grasp this concept until now. This summer is, hopefully, going to be my last summer of just relaxed fun and working. I wanted to ensure that I enjoyed capitalize the most out of it.

Be a tourist in your city

It doesn't take much to enjoy summer. Life is about the simple things, right? It costs zero dollars to explore your city. Sight-see places you normally wouldn't travel. This brings for great memories to be made without truly traveling outside of your hometown.
For me, I decided to travel to Richmond, and explore. My car just got fixed and I've been itching to hit the road and get out of my comfort zone. During my time in Richmond, I enjoyed the beautiful wall art and shops on Cary St., then decided to enjoy some time at Short Pump Mall. All in all, the mini day trip was a breath of fresh air, and motivated to take more trips this summer. Whether it be an hour away, or right at home, do it! You'll thank yourself and me later. I promise!

As for my outfit, I went for a comfortable relaxed fit. My pink tee is from H&M's basics collection. My ripped olive green chino pants are from ASOS. My classic cheetah print sneakers are also from ASOS, these are definitely a favorite of mine, especially with all the walking I did this day.

Until next time,

Today, I tried out something new for myself. I've never been a fan of double toned clothing. I'm not even sure if that is the appropriate terminology to this style. Nonetheless, I tried something new and I loved how it turned out on me. Olive green is such a staple piece in my wardrobe, I have various chino pants, shorts, shirts, hoodies in this color. Therefore, it was nothing for me to experiment with some olive on olive action. I must admit that it turned out great, especially paired with my denim jacket.
I picked up the shirt from H&M's basics collection for around $5, and the shorts may have been $15-$20 from H&M as well. As for the denim jacket, I've had it since I was a freshman in high school. It's a normal wash Levi's jacket. I must say it is extremely durable. Although, there are some rips in it, it kind of plays off the distressed denim trend that is in right now.  My shiny silver shoes are from Zara, great purchase and they can really be used as a staple piece in any style you're going for.

It's definitely been an adjustment getting back into blogging, but I'm loving every minute of it. I'd much rather put 1000% into my blog and creating content for my loyal readers than working for some job over the summer. I'm really glad to see things coming together, and hopefully the blog expands to something bigger and better.

Until next time you guys,

A Pop of Color: Styling Teal Chino Pants

When you think of the summer, what comes to mind? The sun, the beach, sand, shorts, sandals, and bright colors! The summer is all about the bright color action. In today's look, i decided to experiment with my wardrobe and see what pop of color I could find.

Men's Teal Chino Pants

One thing about me is that I'm in love with the basics, blacks and whites are my go-to's in regards of collaborating with other colors. With this look, I felt as though the teal pants "popped" more with darker colors.

To start things off, a basic black t-shirt is essential in any wardrobe. Black is slimming, black is neutral, black is stunning, black is everything. Basically, if you don't own a black t-shirt, what are you doing? Also, I tucked in the shirt for this style because I noticed that this was another fashion trend that has seemed to resurface. This is a trend that I don't mind at all, I feel more sophisticated when the shirt is nicely tucked into my pants, but that might just be me. To each his own.

Up next are my teal pants, I purchased these pants a while back, I think I may have still been in high school. Nonetheless, I rarely wore them and decided that it was time to try and utilize them for once. Like I said, I felt as though the teal went much better with black rather than white. However, who knows, I may have to try this out with white and see how that looks.

And lastly, these shoes were purchased from ASOS. These suede black loafers are beyond comfortable. Although, i definitely feel like these loafers work better in the winter. They still worked out with this outfit. I loved styling this look and hope to be able to experiment even more with my style.

Life Update: Things are going great now that I finally have some time to myself. I can allocate my time to whatever I feel is important to me. Obviously, I'm still working but I have more time for the blog which is extremely important. I'm taking the time this summer to really enjoy myself, since this will be my last "chill" summer. At least I hope it is. I'm trying to experience as many golden moments this summer and share them with you all, as well as how fashionable I look while doing so. However, that's enough for now. I'll see you next time!

Keep up with me on all of my social media accounts!

Casual Style: H&M Navy Blazer + Stripes + ASOS Suede Loafers

Happy Monday all! I know it has been a while since I've last posted! Forgive me, please! So much has been happening and being preoccupied with school has taken up so much of my time. However, I am back and that is all that matters. I have new motivation and new ideas for the blog that I am ready to display!

I wanted to share with you all a casual outfit that I wear quite often. It's very simple, yet so put together.
H&M Men's Navy Blue BlazerH&M Men's Navy Blue Blazer
Everything in this fit was reasonably priced! These are all pieces that I've worn in different styles and outfits.

First and foremost, the Blazer is from H&M. I purchased this on sale for $32, I believe. Extremely cheap and fashionable. As some of us may know, blazers are not the cheapest piece of an outfit. But ever since it was purchased, it has been worn in many different settings, such as going to class, awards ceremonies, church, etc. However, I prefer to wear it in much more casual outings.

The next piece is the striped t-shirt. Honestly, I think the striped t-shirt paired with the blazer really makes the t-shirt stand out. I love how the two patterns contrast against each other. The t-shirt was also purchased from H&M. This item is definitely a staple piece for any fashion-connoisseur. It's simple and stylish, and can be used flawlessly with any outfit.

I think my favorite items in this outfit are these jeans. Lately, I've become quite obsessed with this super distressed trend that has been making its way through the world of fashion. These jeans are, by far, one of my favorite pieces in my closet.  The light wash of the denim paired up with the suede shoes and the dark blazer makes everything stand out. If you couldn't tell, I love contrast! These jeans are extremely comfortable! I purchased them from Forever21's Mens collection.

ASOS Burgundy Suede Loafers

Finally, the shoes! These burgundy suede loafers were purchased from one of my favorite shops on the internet, ASOS! Asos has such a great collection of all things men, ranging from accessories to clothes. These shoes are definitely a statement piece. However, if you noticed earlier in the post, I wore another pair of loafers with this outfit. The tan loafers are for a simple, basic look. Whereas, the suede burgundy loafers are for when you want to give your outfit that extra pop of color to make people turn their heads a few times as you walk by. Both pair are extremely comfortable. Nine times out of ten, you will probably catch me hanging out in my tan loafers. Whereas my suede loafers are for special events or whenever I'm feeling snazzy!

I hope you all enjoyed this first post to get me back into the blogging game! Feel free to leave love and contact me via my social media accounts!

Don't Be Discouraged

Outfit Details:

Hello All,
Recently, I've been feeling a little low in my spirit. Due to recent events in both the world and my personal life. However, I cannot allow these things to prevent me from being great and pursuing my purpose.

Therefore,  I want to leave you with an inspirational message.  I feel as though I owe to you all, as well as to myself.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."

- Philippians 4:8-9

Life is hard; full of disappointments, heart breaks and aches, mind boggling decisions, and tragedy.  However, if we continue to focus on the negatives of life, we will never be able to enjoy it. As the scripture clearly states that if we focus on the good in life, then we will have the peace we need to carry on.

If I told you all that I didn't need to hear this myself, then I would be lying to you. I really needed to hear this!

For those who don't know, I plan out everything basically. Therefore, the smallest delay in my plans for life really disturbs my soul and causes me stress. However, God is too good to me to allow minor setbacks to prevent me from continuing to be great.

Remember God's timing is not our timing. God's thoughts are not our thoughts. No doesn't always mean not ever, sometimes it means not now. God see's the long term affect of our decisions, and is only trying to guide us down the path he has set for us.

2017 is supposed to be a year of prosperity! Focus on the negatives and allowing disappointments to block us from pressing forward towards are goals is a major NO! Focus on the good, the positive, the simple blessings that God has graced us with. Focus on this, and continue to move forward in God. I cannot stress this enough.

You can do anything you set your mind and heart to. Just take it up with God, and if it's for you, then it will be for you.

Talk to you soon,
-Mikey :]
